FAQ
Frequently Asked Questions
What is Powder Brows?
Powder eyebrows are a semi-permanent makeup technique that gives the eyebrows a misty, powdered effect, similar to wearing makeup.
It is done by inserting pigment into the surface layers of the skin using a machine designed for cosmetic tattooing and the ‘dotting’ technique, or pixelization. The 2-step procedure consists of the initial insertion of the pigment, and a touch up about 6-8 weeks after the initial procedure.
How long does it lasts?
Cosmetic tattooing is designed to fade over time. Factors such as skin type, lifestyle, age, metabolism, medications, and pigment color affect the longevity of the tattoo.
The sun and some kinds of lighting (tanning beds) can affect the rate at which these pigments are broken down. To take care of your brows follow the aftercare instructions and touch-up your brows every 12-18 months (as needed). Touch-ups are normal and expected for Permanent Cosmetics.
Please note that final results vary and CANNOT be guaranteed due to the nature of skin as it heals. A follow-up appointment is recommended at 6-12 weeks where we can assess your pigment retention and make any changes necessary.
Does it hurt?
Most clients report little to no pain, and would compare it to a tweezing session. Many clients even fall asleep! Topical anesthetic is applied during the procedure so the client can feel at ease while receiving the treatment.
How long does it take to heal?
You’ll be able to wear your new brows back to brunch! In the first 7-10 days, you’ll need to avoid getting them too wet (in the shower), working out (sweating) or wearing brow makeup.
When should I get a Touchup?
It is highly advised to book your 1st touchup between 6-10 weeks. This follow-up also increases the longevity of your Semi-Permanent Cosmetics.
Who is ineligible for PMU?
Not recommended for those with oily skin or large pores. If that’s you, you may want a shading or combination shading and microblading technique.
We also do not provide microblading for people:
-
under 18 years old
-
pregnant or nursing
-
if you have diabetes, glaucoma, skin diseases such as Shingles, psoriasis or eczema on the area of treatment
-
allergies to makeup
-
Keloid disorder, HIV/Hepatitis, skin cancer, hemophilia, or if you’re taking skin medications like ro-accutane and steroids.
What factors will affect the Permanent Makeup?
-
Smoking: Smokers may notice that their Semi-Permanent Cosmetics will fade faster.
-
Sun exposure: Increased exposure to the sun will cause premature fading. You will want to use a special sunscreen for your Semi-Permanent Cosmetics.
-
Age and metabolism. The Faster your metabolism the faster the pigment will fade.
-
Bleeding during the procedure: Excessive bleeding during your procedure will greatly affect how your body retains pigment. While this is not entirely in our control, it is important that you follow before care instructions to help minimize bleeding. This includes avoiding blood thinning medications, alcohol, and caffeine 24 hours before your procedure.
I have had my brows tattooed before, can you fix them/touch them up?
-
I require that anyone who has had their brows tattooed previously by another artist to send me clear pictures before booking an appointment. This way we can discuss your options. Any client coming to me from a different artist is considered a new client, with full prices.
Do I need a consultation before getting Semi-Permanent Makeup?
-
I do offer consult appointments where you can have a specific question or you can ask if you have any concern.
